Aphrodite Tattoo Meaning

Love, beauty, desire, and the divine archetype of pleasure.

Aphrodite was born from sea foam where the severed genitals of Uranus fell into the ocean - beauty emerging from violence, desire from destruction. She stepped ashore on Cyprus, and flowers bloomed beneath her feet. The gods themselves were not immune to her power; even Zeus arranged marriages to keep her from disrupting Olympus with her affairs.

She was not merely beauty but desire itself - the force that draws beings together, sometimes for creation, sometimes for ruin. Her sacred symbols included the dove, the rose, and the mirror. In Rome she became Venus, mother of Aeneas and ancestral goddess of the Roman people.
