Silk Thread Tattoo Meaning

Transformation, gestation, self-made shelter, and the spun chrysalis.

The Cocoon is the shelter the creature spins around itself from its own thread — the self-made chamber of transformation, woven from within, in which the becoming creature wraps itself away to be remade. To carry the Cocoon is to carry transformation, gestation, self-made shelter, and the spun chrysalis — the protective cocoon spun from one's own silk, the hidden gestation of becoming, the self-built sanctuary in which the old is wrapped away and the new is formed.

The Cocoon is a shelter the creature makes entirely from itself — spinning out its own silk, thread by thread, to weave the protective chamber in which it will transform. No one builds the cocoon for the caterpillar; it spins it from within its own body, wrapping itself in a sanctuary made of its own substance. The cocoon is thus a self-made shelter, woven by the very one who will be transformed inside it, from the thread it produces itself.

This makes the cocoon the emblem of the self-spun shelter — the protective space we build for ourselves out of ourselves. It carries the meaning of creating one's own sanctuary for transformation: the withdrawing into a space we ourselves make, spun from our own resources, in which to do the work of becoming. Sometimes we must spin our own cocoon — build, from within ourselves, the sheltered space we need to transform. To carry the cocoon is to carry this — the self-spun shelter, the chamber of transformation woven from one's own thread. The cocoon is the self-spun shelter — the protective chamber the creature weaves around itself from its own silk. The universal cocoon is the self-spun shelter — a shelter the creature makes entirely from itself, spinning out its own silk thread by thread to weave the protective chamber in which it will transform; no one building the cocoon for the caterpillar, it spinning it from within its own body, wrapping itself in a sanctuary made of its own substance, the cocoon a self-made shelter woven by the very one who will be transformed inside it, from the thread it produces itself — the emblem of the self-spun shelter, the protective space we build for ourselves out of ourselves, creating one's own sanctuary for transformation (the withdrawing into a space we ourselves make, spun from our own resources, in which to do the work of becoming), sometimes we must spin our own cocoon, build from within ourselves the sheltered space we need to transform.
