Orca Tattoo Meaning

Family, social bonds, intelligence, and ancestral language.

Orca pods are matrilineal - led by the oldest females who pass down hunting techniques, migration routes, and distinct dialects across generations. Different pods have different 'cultures': some hunt seals, others salmon; each has its own songs and social rules. Sons often stay with their mothers for life.

In Pacific Northwest Indigenous traditions, the orca is a powerful spiritual being. Some nations consider themselves descended from orcas or share clan kinship with them. The Haida call them 'skana' - supernatural beings that can take human form and drag canoes to their underwater villages.
