Midwife Tattoo Meaning
Birth, transition, assistance, and bringing the new into the world.
Artemis, goddess of the wild, was also goddess of childbirth - having helped deliver her twin Apollo immediately after her own birth. In many cultures, the midwife holds sacred status as the one who bridges the boundary between unborn and born, guiding new life through the dangerous passage.
The word 'midwife' means 'with-woman' - present during transformation but not the one transforming. Socrates famously described his philosophical method as 'maieutic' - midwifery - helping others birth ideas they already carried within them.
